Jones set to appear before Special Judge for knife assault
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR,

A Muldrow man is scheduled to appear before Special Judge Matt Orendorff on June 19 in Sequoyah County District Court on a felony charge of assault, battery, or assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he reportedly assaulted another individual with a knife.

Tracy L. Jones, 31, was formally charged on April 14 and a warrant was issued for his arrest the same day. He received a $50,000 bond and if found guilty of the charge, District Attorney Jack Thorp said it is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years in the penitentiary or one year in the county jail.

Muldrow Police officer Andrew McConohy reported in a probable cause affidavit that he was dispatched to S.E. 12th Street around 10 p.m. on March 31 regarding an assault at knifepoint.

The victim told the officer a car reportedly followed him into his driveway and when he stopped, two men jumped out. The victim described one of the men as being African American that the other male called Tracy, and a bigger man wearing a mask.

The victim said they started chasing his neighbor, who was in the truck with him, and then came around to the driver’s side where one of the men allegedly hit the victim with a bat. The victim said the man who was called Tracy then came at him with a knife and cut the victim’s arm while kicking it out of his hand, according to the affidavit.

The victim said he was then hit in the face while crawling across the truck to exit through the passenger side. The victim said the man in the mask chased him once again with the bat before the two men got into a brown Nissan and started to leave. He said the men pulled out into the street when they reportedly saw the victim’s neighbor. He said the driver put the car in reverse and allegedly tried to hit the neighbor with the car.

The neighbor was able to get out of the way and the car struck a tree, causing damage to the rear of the car, and then fled the scene.

The victim reported there was also damage to his truck’s shifter and ignition during the struggle.

According to the affidavit, the victim was able to identify Jones as the driver and one of the men who reportedly assaulted him.
