The town of Muldrow invites members of the community to join them in their 30th year of observing the National Day of Prayer. The observance will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, May 4, at the Muldrow Town Park.
Muldrow Assembly of God Pastor Shawn Money will serve as leader of this year’s event, the colors will be raised by Muldrow Fire Chief Jesse Chandler, Kristen Leininger will sing the National Anthem, and special music will be provided by the Muldrow Elementary Bulldoggies, director Ms. Glenda Fouts and the high school Show Choir, and band director Adam Pool.
A men’s quartet, made up of Lyndon Emberton, Chris Real, Carl Fugett and Scott Real, will also perform.
Muldrow Mayor Catherine Jones signed a proclamation on Monday morning, observing May 4 as the day to “Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much,” which is this year’s theme, taken from James 5:16B, that Prayer Task Force Chairman Fern Real said Brother Bob Thomas of Noble will be preaching from.
Thomas was born in 1954 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was raised in church, and saved and baptized when he was 7-years-old. He married Rhonda Jo Jernigan in 1973 and graduated from California Christian College in 1976 with a Bachelors of Science in Theology. He completed his Master of Ministry degree in 2004 through Moody Bible Institute.
He has served as pastor, staff member, evangelist, conference speaker, soloist and worship leader.
He and Rhonda have two sons, Ben and Joshua, two daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.
According to www. nationaldayofprayer.org, prayers will be led for the family, church, military, government, business and workplace, education, arts, media and entertainment.
Real said the first observance in Muldrow began in 1993.
“God placed it on my heart and I received encouragement

from my husband, Starr, and local pastors,” Real said.
She said the first few years were held in front of City Hall.
“Where the midday train was always to be reckoned with,” she remembered. “But we continued to hold it there until the town park was completed.”
Real said the task force is encouraging all of those who have served in the past to join them.
“Also, if you have ever been a speaker, come and join us in praying. Prayer changes things and God is still on the throne listening to His children,” she said. Real said she is retiring after this year.
She said if inclement weather occurs, the event will be moved to Eastside Freewill Baptist Church.
