Rangers Move to SCAC Final With Wins over Stigler, Gore

Unbeaten Class 3A No. 3 Roland advanced to the title game of the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic (SCAC) for the 11th straight year on Thursday night inside Sallisaw’s Paul Post Field-house as the Rangers recorded their biggest point total of the season in the SCAC semifinal win over the Panthers.

The Rangers started SCAC action last Tuesday with a victory over Gore.

Roland 95, Stigler 62

The teams scored a combined 52 points in the high-scoring opening period on Thursday in Sallisaw. Roland’s Jaxon Wiggins, who was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points, registered eight and Darrius Phillips

(7), Hayden Riggs (6) and Braxton Shook and Xavier Robertson (4 each) scored the rest of the Rangers’ 31 points. Jordan Dorris and Devin Wilson each made two 3-pointers for the Panthers, who registered 21.

Chase Pyeatt (8 points), Wiggins (7), Phillips (4) and Chaz Perry and Robertson (3) were Roland’s top scorers in the second quarter as the Rangers increased their advantage by 12 (27-15). Dorris hit two more treys and Zane Oldham totaled four points for Stigler, which trailed 58-36 at the half.

In the third frame Pyeatt’s four field goals, four points apiece by Shook and Wiggins and Phillips’ trey helped Roland widen its lead by two (21-19). Caleb Humphries (three treys), Wilson (5 points) and Dorris (3) led the Panthers in scoring.

Wiggins and Jackson Kemp recorded four and three points, respectively, in the final eight minutes while Dorris registered three for Stigler.

Trailing Wiggins in scoring for Roland were Pyeatt and Phillips (16 each), Riggs (10), Shook (8), Perry and Robertson (7 apiece), Kemp (3), Elijah Dalton and Maison Gray (2 each) and Paxton Pitts (1).

Scoring for Stigler were Dorris (18), Humphries and Wilson (14 each), Oldham (8) and Jaxon Calhoun, Jalen Cloud, Chase Cantrell and Gabe Hale (2 apiece).

The Rangers improved to 13-0 with the win while the Panthers dropped to 7-4.

Roland 85, Gore 34

The Class 3A No. 3 Rangers moved into the SCAC semifinals last Tuesday night inside the Gore Event Center with the victory over the Pirates.

In the first eight minutes Chase Pyeatt, Braxton Shook and Jaxon Wiggins scored four points apiece for Roland while Weston Shanks registered six and Jericho Pettit hit a 3-pointer for the Pirates, who went to the second trailing 14-11.

Darrius Phillips of the Rangers exploded for 15 points in the second stanza, Wiggins added seven and Xavier Robertson and Pyeatt recorded three apiece. Pettit and Shanks each knocked down a 3-pointer for the Pirates, who trailed 44-20 at the half after being outscored 30-9.

Roland increased its advantage by 17 points (24-7) in the third quarter. Phillips totaled 14 points and Wiggins registered four while James Bane and Wade Ellis led the Pirates with three apiece.

Elijah Dalton of the Rangers had six points in the fourth frame while Brady Thomas hit a trey for the Pirates.

Phillips’ 31 points led all scorers and also scoring for the Rangers were Wiggins (15), Shook (8), Pyeatt (7), Dalton (6), Maison Gray (4), Robertson (3), Chaz Perry, Cole Davis, Jackson Kemp, Luke Lewis and Paxton Pitts (2 each) and Camryn Hull (1).

Scoring for the Pirates were Shanks (9), Pettit (6), Bane and Ellis (5 each), Thomas (4), Trenton Sanders and James Dover (2 apiece) and Jacob Morgan (1).
