Muldrow Softball
Muldrow’s high school softball team was scheduled to end District 4A-8 play on Monday at Sallisaw and the outcome of that game and Checotah’s home doubleheader against Idabel on Monday will determine the Lady Bulldogs’ playoff opponent.
Only the top four teams in each district qualify for the playoffs. Fort Gibson and Broken Bow are first and second, respectively, in the district, and Muldrow (7-6) or Checotah (6-6) will fill the third and fourth slots.
Because of marginal points (differences in district scores), Muldrow has clinched at least fourth-place in the district and under the right circumstances the Lady Bulldogs could move to third.
The Lady Bulldogs most likely would travel to Cushing or Sequoyah-Claremore for regional play next week.
The Lady Bulldogs topped Cameron 11-6 and Wister 5-3 in a non-district doubleheader at Wister last Monday before beating Roland 4-2 last Tuesday at Lady Ranger Field (see separate story).
Muldrow 5, Wister 3
The Lady Bulldogs broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the eighth inning and hung on for the victory over the Lady Wildcats in Muldrow’s second game of the day last Monday.
Muldrow went in front 1-0 in the top of the first inning but Wister tied it in the bottom of the fourth. After the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in their at-bat in the eighth, the Lady Wildcats registered two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Muldrow’s Chelsi Possage went 3 for 4 and scored two runs, Haley Flute (1 for 3) drove in two runs and Darbi McAfee and Alexis Lane each had one RBI.
Lindsey Prewett hit a triple and scored a run for the Lady Bulldogs and also scoring for Muldrow were McAfee and Lane (1 each).
Kelsi Qualls (8.0 innings) was the winning pitcher after giving up three hits and one earned run and the freshman struck out three and walked three.
Each team committed three errors in the contest.
Muldrow 11, Cameron 6
The Lady Bulldogs overcame a 5-1 deficit by scoring five runs apiece in the fourth and fifth frames to down the Lady Yellowjackets last Monday.
Chelsi Possage’s sacrifice fly put Muldrow up 1-0 in the bottom of the first but Cameron scored five runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead. After Muldrow went in front 6-5 in the fourth, the Lady Yellowjackets tied the score at 6-6 in the top of the fifth before Muldrow regained the lead in the bottom of the frame on Haley Flute’s RBI triple.
Destiny Tune (2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs), Darbi McAfee (2 for 3 with two triples and two RBIs), Kelsi Qualls (2 for 4 with two doubles) and Paige Hughes (2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs) had multiple hits for Muldrow.
Alexis Lane also had a triple and an RBI in the game.
Scoring for Muldrow were Lindsey Prewett and Qualls (2 each) and Tune, Whitlee Lasiter, McAfee, Possage, Flute, Hughes and Ashlynn Flute (1 each).
Natalie Webb (7.0 innings) picked up the win after allowing eight hits and three earned runs and the senior struck out two and walked none.
